Daphne Simpkins, writer and writing teacher at Auburn University--Montgomery
Daphne Simpkins has written about life in the South for the past 20 years, and many of her essays have appeared in a variety of periodicals, but most often The Chicago Tribune. For the past two years, she has been the biographer of Mildred Budge, a fictional character she created to honor the sensible and heroic Southern women who are her neighbors and friends. Twenty of these short stories have appeared in Canada and in the U.S. They are also syndicated through churchmousepublications.com. Simpkins also teaches writing at Auburn University--Montgomery. She has published two books: a biography for children about Nat King Cole, Nat King Cole: An Forgettable Life of Music (Junebug Books) and a Southern memoir, The Long Good Night (Eerdmans).
