Bert Hitchcock, Ph. D., professor emeritus of English, Auburn University
Bert Hitchcock retired in 2008 after almost 40 years as an English department faculty member and administrator at Auburn University. Originally from Demopolis, he earned an undergraduate degree at Auburn and holds graduate degrees from the University of Oregon and Duke University. He also attended the University of Melbourne, in Australia. At Auburn, he regularly taught classes ranging from freshman English to doctoral courses, and he has been a presenter in many public humanities programs around the state. His research and textbook publications deal with American literature generally and Southern and Alabama literature in particular.
