SUPER Application Guidelines

Please read these detailed guidelines thoroughly before applying.

APPLICATION MATERIALS
* An application is not considered received until all three materials (listed below) arrive. See methods for turning in materials below.

*If applying to more than one seminar, separate application forms, separate essays and separate deposits are required for each.

1. Application form
All applicants must submit a completed application form for each institute and workshop to which they are applying.

AHF provides application forms in Microsoft Word form. Complete using your computer and Microsoft Word; save to your computer; e-mail completed form to cmartin@ahf.net

or

b) Complete using your computer and Microsoft Word; print out form; mail in completed form to: SUPER, Alabama Humanities Foundation, 1100 Ireland Way, Suite 101, Birmingham, AL 35205

2. Essay
One full-page, double-spaced essay explaining how attending this particular program will benefit you as an educator is required for each institute and workshop to which you are applying. Include your name and the institute or workshop applied for at the top of each essay. Essays that are e-mailed must be created in Microsoft Word. Essays may not exceed two pages.

Be sure to include any specific ideas or plans you may have for incorporating the information obtained into your work as a teacher, school librarian or administrator.

There are two options for writing your essay(s):

a) Type on your computer using Microsoft Word; save to your computer; e-mail to cmartin@ahf.net

or

b) Type on your computer using Microsoft Word; print out; mail in completed essay to SUPER, Alabama Humanities Foundation, 1100 Ireland Way, Suite 101, Birmingham, AL 35205


Note: Essays less than one full page and/or handwritten essays will not be accepted.

3. Security Deposit
All applicants must submit a fully refundable deposit in order to be considered for acceptance. Separate deposits are required for each institute and workshop to which you are applying. If accepted, this deposit will serve as a registration deposit. If not accepted, this deposit will be refunded along with a letter of decline within six weeks of receipt.

Note:
An alternate application/registration security may be arranged in light of verifiable financial difficulty by contacting the SUPER Manager, (205) 558-3997.

  • A $50 security deposit is required for each institute application.
  • A $20 security deposit is required for each one-day workshop application.

    All participants successfully completing an institute will receive a full deposit refund within three weeks after the conclusion of the program. Registered applicants who withdraw up to two weeks prior to the beginning of the program will receive a full deposit refund within four weeks of receipt of written or e-mail notification and return of unmarked program resource materials.

    Registered applicants who withdraw within two weeks of the beginning of the program will not receive a deposit refund. In order to be eligible to apply to future SUPER programs, all program resource materials must be returned to the AHF immediately upon notification of cancellation. Returned materials must be in appropriate condition for redistribution to another participant, i.e., either unopened or, at least, clean with unmarked pages and tight bindings.

    Program participants who do not complete an Institute in its entirety and in accordance with the SUPER Participant Letter of Agreement will forfeit entirely their registration deposit refund and any further benefits associated with the Institute. Eligibility to apply to future SUPER programs will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

Note: All application materials must be in hand in order to be considered. We are still accepting applications until spaces are filled.

AHF will continue to accept applications as long as space is available. AHF will maintain a waiting list for programs that fill early. There is no limit to the number of programs to which you may apply.

MORE INFORMATION
Applications must include a personal e-mail address.
A personal e-mail address is required because many school systems block outside e-mail. The majority of communication between AHF and applicants/participants will be conducted via e-mail. If you do not have an e-mail address, you will contacted by phone at the number provided on your application or via regular mail at your home address provided on your application.

Applicants will be notified of AHF’s receipt of complete application materials via e-mail within 10 business days.

INSTITUTES
Application requirements: Completed application form, one-page essay and $50 security deposit per institute.

WORKSHOPS
Application requirements: Completed application form, one-page essay and $20 security deposit per workshop.

We are still accepting applications.
Early applicants will receive via e-mail either a Letter of Agreement of Letter of Decline via e-mail within 6 weeks of AHF's receipt of all application materials by April 15, 2010. Letters of Agreement must be signed and returned via post mail immediately in order to ensure official registration in the program. Accepted applicants will be notified of official registration via e-mail.

Registered participants will receive all important program information via e-mail as well as a resource materials parcel 6-8 weeks prior to the seminar.
