The Kudzu Philosophy
No matter who you are, where you’re from or how deeply you’re rooted in the humanities, if you know Alabama, you know kudzu. Pesky as it may be, the plant is common to everyone. Kudzu spreads and grows, links and connects. It does not discriminate; it is for all. Kudzu is tenacious and energetic. It is ever-changing and holds on tightly. And much like the rich humanities in our state, kudzu can be found, well, everywhere. Like it or hate it, kudzu is truly a ubiquitous feature of Alabama as well as our Southern neighbors.
At AHF, we think we have a lot to learn from kudzu, or at least its concept. Our hope for the Kudzu Twines Journal is that all Alabamians will want to learn from and engage in discussion; to realize they have a place–and a voice–in the humanities world; and that even the smallest bit of information, be it one’s favorite piece of Alabama history or an upcoming literary conference, is definitely worth spreading.
